Mayor Adams Proclaimed May 7, 2012 World AIDS Orphans Day!
On Wednesday, May 2, 2012 Mayor Sam Adams proclaimed May 7, 2012 World AIDS Orphans Day in the City of Portland!
At 9:30am in City Council Chambers at Portland City Hall, Mayor Sam Adams issued the proclamation.
World AIDS Orphans’ Day (WAOD) is a global grassroots campaign to draw attention to and advocate on behalf of the more than 16 million children orphaned by AIDS. Since its inception in 2002, thousands of people have participated in World AIDS Orphans Day events in more than 20 countries, and 800 mayors and elected officials in more than 40 countries have signed pledges advocating for the need to address the orphan crisis.
PAGAC is participated in this year’s World AIDS Orphans’ Day by honoring AIDS orphans at its 5th annual event on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Mercy Corps with expert panelists and dialogue with the community about a pandemic that still exists with over 16 million AIDS orphans worldwide.
